The idea of
driving a car without a human driver at the wheel may seem unrealistic, but
recently Mercedes Benz has unveiled his autonomous car.
The German car manufacturer exposed
the fully electric F105 Luxury in Motion concept car at the CES (Consumer
Electronics Show) in January, and they believe that the car would be on sale by
the end of the decade.
Luxury in the car
The new auto-automobile is no
longer just a vehicle for getting around. The F105 will offer unparallelled luxury,
and a simple car is now transformed into an actual mobile living space. This
will certainly have an impact on our society!
A special feature of this
innovative car is that it doesn’t have any proper windows, although it does
have a normal windscreen. A sense of movement is achieved by using a technology
called ‘Pixel Stream’ to project images of the outside world into the car's
interior.
Eco-friendly and safe
It’s a zero-emissions
automobile, with a hydrogen fuel cell used to generate and store electricity. It
predicted that the cities of the future will no longer be smoggy, but
people-friendly where humans and machines harmoniously share the roads.
It's
also super-safe, with the sides of the car able to inflate like an airbag to
protect passengers in the event of a terrible crash.
Although the car is only a
concept, the F105 would cost about the same as an Mercedes S-Class, which start
at about 65.000 dolllar.
Mercedes believes that we’ll
see driverless cars on our streets within five years. Therefore the company is
hoping to be a major player in the upcoming autonomous car revolution. Even
Google is expected to launch its driverless car prototype this year.
In our country, television-scientist Lieven Scheire has tried such a driverless car for his new program. The outcome was quite surprising! Take a look at: http://deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/videozone/Gezienoptv/1.2283484

Haha, two small comments:
BeantwoordenVerwijderen1. That is one extremely ugly car.
2. I would freak out and scream the whole time whilst 'driving' an autonomous car. Gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Forgot to say I do love the whole idea of using hydrogen as fuel, why are there not more companies launching hydrogen-fueled cars?
