There is a growing pressure to memorize increasingly complex secure passwords for a huge number of services, so some people are thinking along the ways about devices that can remember these complex passwords for them. The Everykey wristband is one of the devices that aim to remove the stress of forgetting your keys or passwords. The Everykey wants to take the place of your physical and digital keys, wrapping them all up in one small digital wristband.
How does it
work?
The Everykey
wristband uses Bluetooth technology to unlock smartphones, computers and
websites. Basically, you strap the Everykey onto your wrist, go within a range
of any password-protected device and you just let your wristband automatically
unlock the device for you. The wristband doesn’t store any passwords itself, it
functions purely via Bluetooth by sending encrypted signals. You can
immediately sign into websites or unlock anything digital without having to
touch a keyboard. A nice extra for the fashionistas among us: the wristband comes in a
variety of colors.
What about
the security?
The gadget causes
debate because of some concerns about its security. Everykey is going for a
‘low price’ of 100 dollars, what might be the reason why they didn’t provide security
on the device. Is it really clever to put passwords and keys in an easily
stealable form? What if your Everykey
wristband would fall into the wrong hands?
“You can disable your Everykey at
any time just like a credit card by calling us or deactivating it through our
website” says Christopher Wentz, CEO of Everykeys.
