Liftware, small but significant

Typically, upon hearing the word 'Parkinson's', you probably think of Muhammad Ali or Michael J. Fox. But did you know more than 32 000 Belgians suffer from the neuromuscular disease? For my last blog, I would like to share with you the mind-blowing miracle that is Liftware, a medical innovation supported by Google. It is, I believe, as simple as it is amazing.

How the Liftware spoon works.
The ingenious technology in the utensil (it comes with a detachable fork and spoon) stabilizes hand tremor by 70% and enables the patients to enjoy their soup, cornflakes or yoghurt again, without the constant fear and humiliation of spilling everything all over themselves. It might seem neglectable, but it helps people regain their confidence and pride.
But how does the technology behind it function, you might wonder? Well, the small computer embedded in the handle detects any tremor and counters it, stabilizing the hand immediately. So simple, yet so effective.

These kind of things are, in my opinion, the best form of innovation. Although the technology is probably very complicated, the application is incredibly straightforward, simple and, most of all, useful. What do you think? Do you know any medical innovations similar to this one? I would love to discover them all.

P.S. Learn more about Liftware on www.google.com/liftware and check out the stories of real people suffering from Parkinson's.
