Smart Knife, the iPad of kitchen utensils

What you see in the picture below, might well be what the knife of the future will look like. At least according to industrial-design student Jeon Chang Dae, the mastermind behind Smart Knife. Smart Knife is a digital, rechargeable knife with a blade that would indicate the nutritional value of whatever you slice.

The Smart Knife has been designed to help you perform a very common task in the kitchen, but it's been packed with a multitude of hi-tech features to check your food. Smart Knife has a special sensor on its tip to sense the quality of the food. The culinary device tests your food's freshness, the amount of sugar, the temperature and its nutritional value. The touchscreen also shows you the bacterial infection degree of your food. On top of this, the knife has negative ions. These negative ions can stop food from getting decomposed, or in other words: it keeps your food fresh for hours.

It’s still only a concept, but I believe it does correspond to real consumer expectations. I am rather cautious about what I eat, I prefer to eat food that is really fresh and nutritional. So how convenient would it be that, instead of deferring to smart phone apps or websites for caloric values, your knife instantly displays it on its blade? I’m just wondering how I would clean it…

If you would like to know more about the Smart Knife, you can take a look at this website (Unfortunately, the information on the webiste is written in very poor English)

So, what are your thoughts on this matter? Feel free to comment!
